Kinky Cinema was a curated film series based in Berlin, created and facilitated by Maya between 2022 and 2026. Dedicated to exploring sexuality, desire, taboos, and the diverse world of kink through cinema, the project brought together curious and open-minded audiences to experience films that challenged conventions and invited meaningful conversation.
Rather than simply screening films, Kinky Cinema presented a carefully curated selection of classics, documentaries, and contemporary works exploring themes such as BDSM, fetishism, power dynamics, non-traditional relationships, gender, identity, and erotic psychology. Every screening was followed by a facilitated discussion, transforming cinema into a space for reflection, dialogue, and community.
Hosted at Berlin's historic Moviemento Kino, Kinky Cinema grew into one of the city's few recurring events dedicated to the cultural exploration of kink through film. More than a film series, it became a place where strangers gathered to experience challenging cinema together, then stayed to reflect, question, and connect.
This archive preserves the films, conversations, and moments that shaped the project—a record of a unique chapter in Berlin's kinky cultural landscape.
Curating Kinky Cinema opened a door into a much larger world than I ever imagined. Over the years I discovered hundreds of remarkable films exploring desire, sexuality, power, and intimacy—far more than I could ever fit into a single program. The collection you find here reflects the films we were able to access, license, and bring to Berlin, but it is only a small chapter of a much richer cinematic history.
I hope this archive inspires you to continue exploring these films, asking difficult questions, and discovering new ways of thinking about desire through cinema.
