Kinky Cinema is a curated film series based in Berlin since 2022, celebrating sexuality, taboos, desire, and the diverse world of kink. Our mission is to bring together curious, open-minded individuals to experience films that push boundaries, challenge norms, and explore intimacy, non-traditional relationships, and erotic psychology through cinema. More than just screenings, Kinky Cinema creates a space for reflection, discussion, and community around stories rarely explored on the big screen.
This screening is especially significant for two reasons: it marks the 50th anniversary of In the Realm of the Senses and will also be the last official Kinky Cinema screening for the foreseeable future. So whether you come to say goodbye — or you’ve always wanted to join and never had the chance — we would love to see you there.
In the Realm of the Senses (1976), directed by Nagisa Ōshima
50 years after shocking audiences around the world, In the Realm of the Senses (1976), directed by Nagisa Ōshima, remains one of the most controversial and boundary-pushing films ever made. Inspired by true events in 1930s Japan, this legendary work continues to challenge the boundaries between art, sexuality, obsession, and cinematic transgression.
Synopsis: Sada Abe, a former sex worker, begins an intense affair with Kichizō, a married inn owner. As their relationship deepens, desire slowly consumes every aspect of their lives, blurring the boundaries between pleasure, devotion, control, and self-destruction.
